^MT: Media Type (ZPL)

Selects direct thermal stock or thermal transfer ribbon.

Media type tells the printer whether heat should mark coated stock directly or melt a ribbon onto ordinary labels. Direct thermal uses D. Thermal transfer uses T and expects a ribbon that matches the label face. The wrong choice is a common cause of blank labels: transfer mode with no ribbon, or direct mode on stock that needs a ribbon. Set it before calibration, print one label, and save. Leaving the wrong mode in place wastes media and can glaze the head.
