Zebra GK420d setup, specs, and drivers

The GK420d is a direct-thermal desktop at 203 dpi and 4.09 inches, with ZPL and EPL coresident. macOS uses the built-in CUPS driver. It is not a phone printer. A factory Ethernet option shows up in a comparison chart we only saw as a snippet. Bridge support is in testing.

The GK420t is the thermal-transfer model. This page is the direct-thermal GK420d.

Lights and feed button#

The light table and the feed-button counts are already on what the lights mean and calibrate a Zebra. This page does not copy them. Four flashes is the factory-default path on factory reset. Language choice is EPL vs ZPL.

The model page in the toolkit is Zebra GK420d calibration. The browser tool speaks ZPL from Chrome or Edge on a computer.

Drivers#

Mac setup is the label printer Mac guide. Windows uses ZDesigner. This page does not name a version. If the queue is offline, use Zebra printer offline on Windows.

An iPhone does not see a USB GK420d. Print shipping labels from an iPhone.

Wireless today#

Share it from a computer that stays on, or read the port. The wireless guide has the options that are actually listed. The GX420d is the G-series model with factory Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or Bluetooth on some units. The ZD220 is USB only. The ZP450 is the UPS desktop people compare it with.

Still to check#

A ZPL job of the same kind as the ZP450, once that path has been run. That check is open.

FAQ

Does the GK420d work on a Mac?

Yes, with the CUPS driver built into macOS. Pick ZPL or EPL2. Both languages are coresident.

Is there a GK420d wireless adapter?

Not one this page can name. A factory Ethernet option is only in a comparison chart we saw as a snippet. The GX420d is the model with documented factory Wi-Fi.

Is the GK420d end of life?

The date was not confirmed. Do not use a date from a forum or a reseller as Zebra's date.

How is it different from a GX420d?

Both are direct thermal, 203 dpi, and 4.09 inches, with ZPL and EPL. The GK420d user guide lists 5 inches per second. Some GX420d units shipped with Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
