Factory reset a Zebra printer

Symptoms

Settings no longer match the labels you print. Someone saved a bad size, a static address, or a language you did not mean to keep. You would rather start over than untangle one field.

Cause

A factory reset reloads the shipping defaults. Darkness, label size, names, and network options can all disappear. It does not calibrate the media and it does not fix a hardware fault. A network reset is the smaller version: it reloads the network defaults and leaves the label setup alone on many models.

Fix

  1. Write down the current darkness and label size if you still want them.
  2. In the danger zone, type RESET and run the factory reset, or type NETWORK for a network-only reset.
  3. Calibrate, set width, length, media type, and darkness again, then save.
  4. The commands are factory defaults and network defaults.

FAQ

Will a factory reset fix blank labels by itself?

No. It only restores shipping defaults. You still set media type, size, and darkness, then calibrate.

How do I reset only the network settings?

Use the network reset, not the full factory reset. You will need to put the printer back on the network afterwards.
