Zebra printer red light
Symptoms
The printer shows a red or flashing light and will not print. It may still feed, or it may sit still. The button press that used to clear it does nothing.
Cause
A red light is a status flag, not one single fault. The common ones are paper out, paused, and an open printhead. Ribbon out and a full buffer show up the same way on some models. Guessing from the blink is slower than reading the status words.
Fix
- Open the head, seat the roll so it is under the sensor, and close the head until it clicks.
- Press the feed or pause button once if the printer is paused.
- Paste a ~HS reply into the host status decoder. It names paper out, paused, head open, ribbon out, and buffer full.
- If the words say the printer is fine and labels are still blank, use the blank label guide.
FAQ
The red light is on and nothing prints
Open the printer, seat the roll, and close the head until it clicks. Then check host status for paper out, paused, or head open.
The light flashes but the printer still feeds
Paste a host status reply into the decoder. The words tell you which flag is set, which is faster than guessing from the blink.
