media.sense_mode

Selects gap, bar, or continuous sensing on firmware that exposes this key.

Sense mode picks how the media sensor indexes the stock. Gap follows the liner between labels, bar follows a black mark, and continuous does not index. Newer firmware often uses device.sensor_select with transmissive and reflective instead. If this key is unknown, set ezpl.media_type and the sensor select key. The source link is the ZPL tracking command, which is the format-language equivalent of this choice. Change sensing only when the stock actually changed, then calibrate. A mode that does not match the roll is the usual cause of skipped labels.
