You do not need a label printer to buy the postage. You do need a label eBay will accept, and an envelope that stays within the size and weight rules.
What it was at launch#
eBay's December 2020 press release, which we read, says eBay Standard Envelope began in January 2021 for sellers in the US. At launch it covered trading cards priced $20 and under, up to 3 oz, with tracking included, for less than $1. The release says eBay planned to expand to new categories.
Envelope limits on eBay's template#
eBay's template PDF, which we read, says:
- Maximum weight 3 oz
- Maximum thickness 1/4 inch
- Maximum size 6 1/8 by 11 1/2 inches
- Minimum length 5 inches
A #10 envelope is 9 1/2 inches long, which is under that maximum. The template also marks a 6 by 9 envelope.
Print it from Windows onto a #10 envelope#
A walkthrough we read is Windows only. It does not give a Mac or phone method.
- In eBay's label flow, change the print format to 4 by 6, then buy the postage.
- In the print dialog, set the paper size to #10 envelope.
- Adjust the scale if the label is not centered.
- You may need to feed the envelope backwards. The walkthrough says this method can print upside down compared with a normal letter.
What sellers report#
Two forum threads did not re-open on October 27, 2026. A bot check stopped the page. The notes below are the summaries gathered for this page.
A February 2026 thread on r/Ebay, with 39 comments, is about taping a paper label onto an envelope. The advice there is to cover the whole label with clear tape, because of water, and to keep the envelope machinable. Rigid cardstock can mean a non-machinable surcharge, or tracking scans that never happen.
A thread on r/eBaySellerAdvice says printing on envelopes with a laser printer works, with alignment trouble and jams, and that a 4 by 6 thermal label fits a #10 envelope.
If you already have a printer#
A 4 by 6 thermal label is the common next step. A USB Zebra that already prints 4 by 6 labels can print this one from a computer. Keep the scale at 100 percent so the barcode does not shrink. The wrong-size guide is that problem on a Zebra. An EPL-only LP2844 still uses its own driver. Language choice is EPL vs ZPL.
